The music of the MUKTI was composed by Pankaj Kumar Mallick. Why

MEGAPHONE brought KANAN’S MUKTI songs with wrong credits is a mystery.
The corrected credits however are given in the latest MEGAPHONE CDs of
KANAN. MUKTI (both versions) were the first films for which New theatres’ gave
Pankaj a separate unit. It was P.C. Barua who explained to Pankaj Kumar Mallick
that several of his earlier hits of N.T. had music composed by Mallick but all the
credit went to the senior Raichand Boral. One glaring example is a very popular
Bengali song PHIRE CHALO PHIRE CHALO APANA GHARE ( Lyric : Sourindra
Mohan Mukhopadhyay & tune composed by Pankaj Kumar Mallick). This song
was a major attraction of the Bengali stage play SWAMBARA and Rajlakshmi
Devi (actress / singer of Bengal-read her mini-bio in imdb.com) used to sing in
the play under Pankaj’s training. Rajlakshmi Devi’s song was never published as
a record. Director Debaki Kumar Bose liked the song so much that he wanted to
have it placed towards the end of his film as it perfectly met the needs of the
situation. Raichand Boral agreed and used  the song in Krishna Chandra Dey’s
voice. The job was done and the Krishna Chandra Dey version is remembered
even today and several remakes have been made. However, Pankaj Mallick’s
name did not feature in the title card or booklet of CHANDIDAS (1932) and
Pankaj did not mind. Creation was his work and he himself never bothered for
publicity. This paragraph is added not to belittle anyone…. Only to reveal the
truth….

I am greatly indebted to Dr.M.L Kapur, without whose help reconstruction of this
page with corrections would not have been possible.
